Coshocton dentist Dr. Edward F. Schlegel, 59, of 2010 Fulton
Drive died 1 a.m. Thursday at University Hospital in Columbus
following an extended illness. Schlegel, a Coshocton County
native, operated a dental practice here for more than 30 years,
with his last office located in the Colonial Square Shopping
center on Fairy Falls Drive. In addition to his dental practice,
Schlegel was active in many local organizations including the
Presbyterian Church, were he served as an elder and deacon; the
Masonic Lodge F and AM 96; the Masonic Chapter Council and
Commandery; the Coshocton Shrine Club and the Aladdin Temple
Shrine of Columbus. Schlegel also was a member of the Coshocton
Dental Society, Muskingum Valley Dental Society, Ohio Dental
Society, American Dental Association, Ohio State Alumni
Association, Ohio Farm Bureau and the Coshocton Town and Country
Club. Born Sept. 6, 1923, he was the son of Frances Fry Schlegel
and the late Edward F. Schlegel. He was a 1941 graduate of
Coshocton High School and earned his degree from the Ohio State
University College of Dentistry in 1947.
Following graduation, Schlegel was associated with the
Eastman Dental Clinic in Rochester, N.Y., before returning to
Coshocton to open his own practice on Sixth Street. Schlegel
served as a dentist in the U.S. Army from 1952-53, then returned
here to an office on North Seventh Street. In 1978, Schlegel
relocated in the Colonial Square shopping center, where he
worked until early 1981. On March 21, 1947, he married the
former Joan Johnston. She survives. Also surviving are three
sons, Dr. Edward F. Schlegel, Dr. Denley J. Schlegel and Stephen
Schlegel, all of here; a brother, Dr. Harold F. Schlegel of
Louisville, Texas; and a granddaughter. Funeral service is 2:30
p.m. Sunday at the Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert
Millspaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Roscoe Cemetery.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and until noon Sunday
at the Given-Dawson Coshocton Funeral Home, and one hour prior
to the service in the church parlor. Masonic service will be
conducted by the Coshocton lodge at 6:45 p.m. Saturday at the
funeral home. The family requests memorials take the form of
contributions to the Coshocton Chapter of the American Red
Cross. |
